Four Segments designed as youth-oriented social media-style slide shows
Mental illness and suicide are two of the most important social issues facing our generation. Despite this, they have long been shrouded in silence and plagued by a lack of leadership. The result of this? Suicide is now the 2nd leading cause of death in American youth ages 10-34 years old! Suicide causes more deaths per year than cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, pneumonia, and influenza COMBINED. We cannot afford another moment of this negligence!
With the understanding that we cannot solve a problem until we understand it, @ENDTHESILENTEPIDEMIC we produce four unique “Let’s Get Reel with Mental Health” social media-style slideshows (attempting to produce approximately one per week), addressing the most important mental health and suicide prevention topics to and for youth:
1. “Something to Talk About,” covering the most popular and timely topics in mental health and suicide prevention.
2. “Welcome to Class,” geared for teenagers, with topics and tips most relevant to this age group. We believe it is crucial that mental health education be mandatory in schools – This is one of @ENDTHESILENTEPIDEMIC’s long term activism goals.
3. “Mental Health in Real Life” is written by our campaign’s therapist, Nancy Cowden. This section will be especially useful for people who do not have their own therapist. After decades of working with young people in distress, Nancy is dedicated to helping you with simple and empowering insights and information. In fact, you can ask Nancy a question about your own mental health. Just click “Mental Health in Real Life” below.
4. “Monthly Mental Health Minute” is a way we keep our youth up-to-date on the latest evidenced based findings in scientific and mental health research by summarizing the most relevant peer-reviewed research in a single post that our warriors can read in about one minute! By reading this particular educational content, youth can be on the cutting edge of mental health knowledge in less time than it takes to refresh their Instagram feed!
(Please note that information in @ENDTHESILENTEPIDEMIC cannot substitute for diagnosis and treatment by trained professionals in their professional settings and should only serve educational purposes—it is not at all intended to provide clinical insight or advice. Please never use this content in lieu of or against clinical advice.
